Jawun supports Indigenous-led development across Australia, working with corporate and government partners to deliver capability and resources to communities. With that breadth of operation comes a real responsibility around how information is handled. Jawun's existing cyber policies hadn't been reviewed in some time, and there was no clear framework governing how data was classified or managed across its lifecycle.
Without that foundation, it's difficult to make consistent decisions about who can access what, how long information should be retained, or what happens when something goes wrong.
InterIntra spent five days working directly with the Jawun team in structured workshops. Rather than handing over a document to sign off, we worked through their existing policy set with them, identifying what was current, what had gaps, and what needed to be built from scratch.
From there we developed a Data Lifecycle strategy, giving the organisation a clear framework for how data is created, stored, used, and eventually disposed of. We also created a Data Classification policy, defining categories of information and the handling requirements that come with each.
The process was collaborative by design. The policies reflect how Jawun actually operates, not a generic template.
Jawun came away with a reviewed and updated cyber policy set, a Data Lifecycle strategy, and a Data Classification policy ready for internal adoption. The organisation now has a documented, consistent basis for making decisions about data governance, and the internal understanding to apply it.
