Is Your IT Provider Still Locally Owned?

Over the past few years, a steady stream of South Australian managed service providers have been acquired by interstate and national IT groups. It's part of a broader consolidation trend across the Australian MSP industry, private equity and national platforms buying up profitable local providers to build scale. If you run a business in Adelaide, there's a reasonable chance your IT provider, or one you've considered, has been through this.

An acquisition isn't automatically bad news. But it does change things, and most businesses only find out what changed when something goes wrong.

This isn't a hypothetical for us. Over the past few months, we've seen a steady rise in new clients coming to InterIntra for exactly this reason, their previous provider changed hands, and the support that used to feel personal and responsive didn't survive the transition. That pattern is the reason we're writing this piece.

What Actually Changes After an Acquisition

Of everything that shifts after an MSP is acquired, the one we hear about most from new clients isn't pricing or paperwork, it's the quality and responsiveness of the support itself. Tickets take longer. Answers get vaguer. The team stops feeling like it actually knows your business.

Support quality is usually the first thing to slip. Response times stretch, first-contact resolution drops, and issues that used to get solved in one call start bouncing between tiers. It rarely happens overnight, it erodes over a few renewal cycles until someone finally asks "when did this get so much worse?"

Escalation moves interstate. The person who used to pick up the phone when something serious broke is often replaced by a ticketing queue that routes to a capital city you're not in. Local accountability, someone who actually feels the consequences of your business being down, gets diluted.

The people who know your environment change. Acquisitions bring restructuring. Account managers and engineers who understood your specific setup, your quirks, your history, often leave within the first 12 to 18 months. You end up re-explaining your business to someone new.

Contracts get rewritten to a standard template. At renewal, pricing, SLAs and terms are frequently brought in line with the acquirer's national playbook, not the arrangement you originally negotiated. That's not always worse, but it's rarely something you get much say in.

Support gets standardised, not localised. National platforms run on standard processes because that's how they scale. That can mean less flexibility for how your business actually operates day to day.

Questions Worth Asking Your Current Provider

If your IT provider has changed ownership recently, it's worth asking directly:

A provider with nothing to hide will answer these plainly. If you're weighing up whether to switch at all, our guides on how to choose a managed IT provider in Adelaide and managed IT providers in South Australia cover the criteria and red flags worth checking, ownership change or not.

Where We Stand

InterIntra has been South Australian owned and operated since 2006, same leadership, same local team, ISO 27001 certified. We're not raising this to scare anyone off their current provider. If your support still feels local and it's working, that's genuinely good news. But if you've noticed the shift, or you simply want an independent second opinion, we're a straightforward comparison to have.

The difference we'd point to isn't a promise, it's a contract. Our response times are tiered by priority and financially backed: miss a target and you're compensated, 2% of your monthly fee per breach, up to 25%. In writing, not marketing copy. That's the kind of accountability that's hardest to keep once a local team gets folded into a national one.
